“DOT AND LINE” is a cultural and artistic education project for children aged 8–12, organised as part of the Dr Korczak Academy at the Culture and Arts Centre in Wrocław. The Academy’s activities aim to support children’s development and education through their involvement in artistic activities, giving these activities a high profile and presenting them to a wider audience.

As part of the art and film workshops, groups of children in two age categories (8–10 and 11–12), under the guidance of educators and filmmakers, will create short abstract films based on local craft techniques and the cultural heritage that has shaped the region’s identity for decades.

During the workshops, the children will:

  • learn what abstract film is
  • learn about the regional craft traditions and culture of their region
  • work in a group to achieve a shared result
  • develop their visual, sound and narrative film creativity
  • develop their artistic creativity based on craft techniques

The films will premiere on 4 October at the International Punto y Raya JUNIOR 2019 Festival at the Audiovisual Technology Centre in Wrocław. The festival is dedicated to children, and its programme includes an international competition of abstract films made by children and judged by a children’s audience, film screenings, children’s audiovisual performances and a very extensive educational programme.

During the festival, the organisers will prepare a special session dedicated to films from Lower Silesia.
