In an email to the editorial office, a reader wrote:
I do not know who is responsible for this area, but what [znajduje się] lies behind Graniczna Street in the direction of the gravel pit and sewage treatment plant is terrifying.
He added:
Could you intervene somewhere to get something done about it? Even a small fire would guarantee a disaster.
The area mentioned by the reader belongs to a private individual. Kamila Chalewicz-Pudłowska, commander of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police, says:
There has been a problem with this area almost from the beginning. We have been dealing with the mess on this plot for as long as we have existed, that is, for 14 years. We have repeatedly filed motions to punish the owner of this property. We have also repeatedly managed—either catching them in the act or as a result of our activities—to identify people additionally littering the area.
And she emphasizes:
We are doing everything within the limits of the law that falls within our authority. We are bringing subsequent cases to a conclusion (one is ongoing). The court is issuing further penalty orders, ruling that the owner is guilty. The owner receives further fines and does not feel obliged to finally clean up the plot.
She adds:
When the owner still appeared in response to our summonses, he said that he intended to fence off the area. But he is constantly evading his obligations. He neither watches over the plot nor tries to secure it.
