We received a report from a Reader, a resident of Lwówek County, that the shoulder of the road running through Włodzice Małe toward Ocice had been completely washed away. According to the man, ditches had formed there, causing the asphalt to be undermined and crumble.
According to the person who reported the matter, the condition of this road was the cause of the accident that occurred on June 11, in which a resident of our county was injured—or, to be precise, a resident of Ocice. (The photographs come from the Facebook service Lwówek na sygnale.)
The man says that he reported this problem to the Lwówek District Roads Authority as early as last year, and that nothing has been done about it so far.
Marek Makowski, head of the District Roads Authority in Lwówek Śląski:
I was at the scene of the incident. At the boundary of the area where the speed limit is 40 km/h and the built-up area begins farther on, the driver entered a ditch, struck the opposite embankment with enormous force, bounced off it, rolled over to the other side of the road and came to a stop on the opposite side. He was certainly driving at excessive speed. The condition of the road had nothing to do with it in this case.
Assistant Commissioner Mateusz Królak, press officer for the Lwówek police, confirmed to us that the cause of the incident was the driver's failure to adjust his speed to the conditions on the road. The Peugeot driver was fined for this offence, and he accepted the fine.
Head of the District Roads Authority:
The shoulder, as follows from the Road Traffic Act, is not part of the road intended for driving. In some places on county roads, the shoulders are indeed somewhat washed out, but this is caused by the weather. I will certainly repair them, but not yet, because I decided that this is not the most urgent matter. Two thousand vehicles a day travel along the road through Włodzice Małe, and nothing bad happens. The carriageway is of standard width there.
He adds:
The District Roads Authority in Lwówek Śląski will begin repairing the shoulders on this road later in June this year.
