It is here! The first in Bolesławiec Municipality—and probably the first in the entire Bolesławiec County! A community refrigerator for those in need—open around the clock and installed by the Weźpomóż.pl Foundation.

There are already more than 40 such refrigerators across Poland; in the capital of Lower Silesia alone, they are appearing like mushrooms after rain.

The one in Trzebień was installed on the initiative of Krzysztof Zięcik, head of the “Trzebień” Housing Cooperative, who noticed community refrigerators in Jelenia Góra and established cooperation with the Weźpomóż.pl Foundation.

What is more, K. Zięcik persuaded local business owners—including the heads of a supermarket and a pizzeria—to join the initiative.

How does a community refrigerator work?

Powered by electricity from the aforementioned supermarket, the refrigerator is self-service. You can put food in it whose use-by date is approaching and which you would normally throw in the trash. This way, someone else can use it—and completely free of charge.

According to Małgorzata Zoryło, the village head of Trzebień and a municipal councillor, the refrigerator will certainly be useful, because there is no shortage of people in need.
