On 23–24 May, the 4th Polish Freestyle Kayaking Championships were held in Jelenia Góra. This year, kayakers competed in three categories: seniors (K1M), juniors (K1J) and women (K1K). The heats took place on Saturday, and the finals on Sunday.
Sunday’s finals were held under new rules. Each competitor had to complete three runs. Only the best result was taken into account in the final standings.
The juniors did not disappoint this time either. Competition in this category was extremely fierce. The winner was Jakub Hankiewicz from Lwówek Śląski, a student of I LO in Bolesławiec, who scored 390 points in his best run.
This is already Kuba’s third Polish championship title won at a competition held on a river—in a hole. Competition in such conditions is much more dynamic and spectacular than indoor events in a swimming pool.
In the senior category, Tomasz Czaplicki of KKK Jelenia Góra defended his Polish championship title, ahead of Tomasz Czaplicki and Jacek Daszkowski and Piotr Sikora (both from KKG Retendo). BLKS “BoLwater” representative Robert Hankiewicz (46) finished sixth.
