The competition jury recognized the exhibition catalogue “From Craft to Art – Bolesławiec Ceramics from Reinhold’s Factory” as the best museum-themed publication of the past year. It is the highest distinction in the history of the Museum of Ceramics.
The awards in the 29th edition of the competition were presented on 18 May during a formal gala in the Great Hall of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Since 1983, the competition has been organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and is the most prestigious event in Polish museology. Its purpose is to honor the most interesting initiatives in all areas of museum activity.
The name of the award—Sybilla—derives from the name of the ancient oracle of Delphi and refers to the famous Temple of the Sibyl in Puławy, where Princess Izabela Czartoryska established the first Polish museum.
The Bolesławiec Museum is one of the smallest among this year’s award-winning institutions, but that did not prevent it from standing alongside the major museums of Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Łódź and Poznań.
The award-winning publication is an extensive Polish-German catalogue accompanying the temporary exhibition “From Craft to Art – Bolesławiec Ceramics from Reinhold’s Factory”. The book contains studies by Prof. Paweł Banaś of the University of Wrocław, one of the largest collectors and experts on contemporary European ceramics, Johanna Kutschera of the Schlesische Museum in Goerlitz, and Anna Bober-Tubaj of the Bolesławiec Museum of Ceramics.
The catalogue entries were written by: Tadeusz Orawiec, Anna Puk and Barbara Glinkowska (Museum of Ceramics), Jolanta Sozańska (National Museum in Wrocław), and Jadwiga Makota (Museum of Old Trade in Świdnica). The publication, richly illustrated with photographs by Janusz Moniatowicz, was produced to a high editorial standard by the “Moniatowicz Foto Studio” publishing house from Jelenia Góra.
