The allocation of funds from PFRON was initially handled by the District Social Council for Persons with Disabilities operating alongside the Bolesławiec District Governor, together with members of the District Council of Public Benefit Activities. The expenditure was consulted with representatives of municipalities, social welfare centres and organisations working for people with disabilities that operate in Bolesławiec District.
Just under PLN 623,000 was allocated to support the activities of Occupational Therapy Workshops. Approximately PLN 65,000 was allocated to subsidise rehabilitation stays. One hundred people reported a need to participate in such stays this year. Priority assistance will be provided to children and people with a significant degree of disability who did not go away last year.
Almost PLN 500,000 will be spent on orthopaedic equipment and assistive devices, such as prostheses, crutches, catheters and incontinence pads. Such needs were reported by 530 people.
A lending centre for equipment essential to sick people, operating at the District Family Support Centre, provides major support for people with disabilities. Beds, anti-bedsore mattresses, walking frames, wheelchairs and other equipment can be borrowed free of charge.
A grant to start a business can be obtained from PFRON funds. People with disabilities have been using this form of support for several years. They open businesses independently; examples include a law firm, a dietitian's practice and a construction company.
Experience shows that even with modest support, these companies manage excellently in the market for years.
Employers can receive PFRON funding to equip workplaces for people with disabilities. Six-month internships with employers and training conducted by the District Labour Office are an interesting way to gain qualifications—and often later employment.
The councillors accepted the proposed allocation of funds without objections.
