Two officers from the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec, while on a cycling trip along the Nysa River, noticed a woman who was intently watching something. After a moment, the pair of uniformed officers saw that two men were in the river, trying to pull a third man out of the water.
The cyclists headed towards them.
As it later turned out, the drowning man and his two friends were German citizens who had gone kayaking. When they were navigating one of the weirs, where the water was heavily backed up, the kayaks overturned and spun around several times.
The men noticed that their friend had lost consciousness. They tried to pull him to the bank, but this was difficult because of the depth and the strong current. They began calling for help.
The police officers immediately jumped into the water and pulled the drowning man ashore. The German was unconscious and not breathing. The officers began resuscitation and called an ambulance.
After successful resuscitation, the man was taken away by the ambulance crew. He is currently under medical care.
