More unexploded ordnance has been found on the grounds of the former Eastern Railway Station. It is already known, however, that there will be no evacuation this time.
Police officers and bomb disposal experts are on site.
Update: 2019-04-03 9:44
The bomb disposal experts have already removed the dangerous objects.
As a reminder, the previous bomb disposal operation connected with Staroszkolna Street took place on Thursday, March 28. The bomb disposal team found two unarmed shells and several inactive fuses there.
As staff warrant officer istotne.pl Radosław Mazur, commander of Disposal Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, told the website at the time, the find was not dangerous. No one is in danger; evacuation will not be necessary.
The objects were destroyed by bomb disposal experts from Bolesławiec.
Earlier, a summary of the widely reported two-day operation at the former Eastern Railway Station (March 21–22) appeared on the Facebook profile of Disposal Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.
The bomb disposal experts:
We recovered and placed in explosive-proof containers 58 explosive and dangerous objects:
- artillery shells – 14
- mortar shells – 5
- artillery-shell fuses – 38
- other – 1 mortar-shell stabilizer.
(On the second day of operations, only fuses).
The uniformed officers add:
The operation was dangerous for us, as every operation is. Whether there is one unexploded item or 100, we must proceed very carefully.
However, after conducting a pyrotechnic examination at the site, we determined that some of the artillery shells had damaged fuses, so special precautions had to be taken. Another difficulty in this case was the very large quantity of metal objects in the ground (so-called metal debris), which made the operation more difficult and prolonged it.
And they emphasize:
And finally: practically all the services were involved, not just us (the Police, Fire Service, medics, local government administration, MZK, PKP and many, many others; apologies if I left anyone out). We thank everyone for securing our operation.
We also thank the residents for their understanding and efficient evacuation.
