An operation to remove unexploded ordnance is underway. This morning, during earthworks, construction company employees found suspicious-looking objects in an embankment. It turned out that they were artillery shells, grenades and fuses—around 10 items in total. Due to the dangerous find, a decision was made to take special safety precautions.
Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated, including residents of Bielska, Staroszkolna, Chrobrego, Gałczyńskiego, Hutnicza and Wańkowicza Streets. People were also evacuated from nearby shops and workplaces. In total, as many as 3,000 people may have been evacuated. Hutnicza Street, part of Chrobrego Street and part of Staroszokolna Street were also closed, as were access roads (toward Chrobrego, Hutnicza and Staroszkolna Streets).
Residents will be able to return home after the operation by sappers from the Bolesławiec Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23 is completed, at around 8:00 p.m. Traffic on the streets will also be restored then.
