Police officers, uniformed services personnel, beauticians, mechanics and teachers, as well as cooks, chefs, butchers and meat processors. To a lesser extent than a year ago, employers are looking for bartenders, bakers and confectioners. Many foreigners have found employment in these professions.

The forecast generated for 2019 for the entire Lower Silesian Voivodeship indicates that the shortages occurring on the labour market will continue to deepen, as they have in recent years.

In Zgorzelec County, there were still six surplus occupations two years ago; now there are none. From one year to the next, the number of shortage occupations rose from 66 to 70. Jobs are available almost immediately for construction workers, drivers, teachers of general education subjects, assemblers, machine operators, healthcare workers and uniformed services personnel, quality-control workers, accounting and bookkeeping workers, and manual workers in manufacturing and unskilled jobs.

The authors of the “Occupational Barometer” compared the sectors experiencing the greatest labour shortages with a list of the 10 occupations in which the largest number of people are registered as unemployed, including shop assistants, cooks, bricklayers, locksmiths and construction workers. Most of them are sought after on the labour market. So why can’t they find work?

However, the most frequently indicated reason is another one – unwillingness to take up work. This is why public employment services are undertaking intensive efforts to activate these groups.
