Unfortunately, theft is everyday business for the police. The Legnica police recorded around 470 cases last year. After a wave of burglaries, residents of the local Piekary estate decided that something had to be done and installed surveillance cameras. The result? They managed to record and arrest two thieves. As we read on natemat.pl:

The police had no trouble identifying the perpetrators. One of them was wearing a sweatshirt with the distinctive Anchor of the Polish Underground State and those who fought in the Warsaw Uprising.

Since the cameras were installed, burglars have stopped harassing the estate’s residents. In an interview with Polskie Radio Wrocław, the head of the homeowners’ association and the initiative’s originator explained that the cost of installing the cameras was nothing compared with the emotional distress caused by a burglary. Even if the stolen items were not of great material value.

What does the police say?

Officers say that every theft is worth reporting, because someone who steals only a wheel today may steal an entire bicycle tomorrow. And if that person is already in the police system, it will be easier to identify and arrest them.

The officers also appeal to residents to watch out for strangers hanging around, for example, in stairwells. Sometimes burglars come with girls. And when someone notices them, the thieves hug their accomplices as if nothing had happened, pretending that they have no bad intentions.
