The incident occurred during the night of 28–29 January in Wykroty. The first outlet to report on the case was The Bad Bunzlauer:

I am a truck driver. I would like to warn others against parking in the Wykroty area. [...] I was robbed of fuel. A driver who scared off the thieves saw a grey passenger car with a damaged front end. If anyone saw such a car, please contact the police station in Bolesławiec.

The perpetrators tore off the fuel filler cap and stole 200 litres of diesel fuel. The losses were estimated at PLN 1,000.

Actions are underway to establish the identity and apprehend the thieves. They could face up to ten years in prison.

What do Bolesławiec police officers advise?

  • refuel the vehicle immediately before setting out on the road (after stopping)
  • when refuelling, do not provide information about the route or stopping places
  • choose guarded, well-lit, trusted places and similar locations for parking the vehicle
  • remain vigilant during breaks and inform the police of any threats (tel. 997)
  • pay particular attention to strangers taking an interest in your truck or cargo, and inform the police of your suspicions (tel. 997).

And they add:

Driver!

To avoid trouble, do not sell fuel you have saved, as it belongs to your employer; selling it may constitute a crime or an offence punishable by law.
