We recently published information that the bloodmobile of the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre in Wałbrzych would be stationed in Bolesławiec, among other places, this week.
This Wednesday, a Reader informed us on Facebook that although registration at the aforementioned bus begins at 9:30 a.m., at 9:55 a.m. none of the donors had yet been allowed in
She added that apparently no blood had been collected here at all on Monday and Tuesday.
As Joanna Ziejło-Augun from the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre explained to us, the Wałbrzych bloodmobile was indeed not in Bolesławiec on Tuesday. The reason? A doctor’s illness. (Those who had already donated blood to the Centre were informed of this by SMS. First-time donors can check whether the bloodmobile will be in their town on a given day on the facility’s website: https://www.rckik.walbrzych.pl/site/).
On Monday, however, employees of the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre were in the City of Ceramics. As many as 27 people donated blood that day.
On Wednesday, there was indeed a delay, but it was related to the fact that the first person to register was a first-time donor, and such a person must undergo a complete set of tests. The result? The donor spent about 40 minutes in the bloodmobile.
J. Ziejło-Augun explains that the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Centre employees cannot order first-time donors not to be the first in line. She adds that, on behalf of the Centre, she apologises for any inconvenience.
Why is it worth donating blood?
“It should be emphasised that, at a donor’s request, we can send the test results later by email,” says Joanna Ziejło-Augun.
And she notes:
It is important that our donor be hydrated. Sometimes this is not the case. As a result, the team asks the donor to drink tea or water before the collection. The collection itself takes up to 14 minutes, but the examination beforehand makes the procedure longer.
She adds:
The doctors employed by the station are specialists in their fields and perform their duties very carefully.
