We have good news for drivers using DK 18. After many years of waiting and damaging car suspensions, this road will finally receive a new surface as well. On December 6, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced a tender for the reconstruction of DK 18 and its adaptation to motorway standards.

The work will cover more than 70 km of the route, from Olszyna to the Golnice interchange (Bolesławiec County). Bids for adapting the first 22 km of the road to motorway standards may be submitted until January 15, 2019 – reports Business Insider Polska.

Reconstruction sections:

  • Olszyna interchange – up to km 11+860 (11.2 km);
  • from km 11+860 to km 33+760 (21.9 km);
  • from km 33+760 to the voivodeship border (16.24 km);
  • voivodeship border – Golnice interchange (21.5 km).

The scope of the project involving the construction of the A18 motorway on the Olszyna interchange–Golnice interchange section (reconstruction of the southern carriageway) includes, among other things:

  • adapting the existing road system to motorway standards,
  • construction of Motorway Traveller Service Areas,
  • modernization of motorway interchanges,
  • construction of two county roads and transverse and longitudinal access roads,
  • construction of a motorway maintenance facility,
  • construction of motorway maintenance and management systems,
  • construction and reconstruction of technical infrastructure facilities,
  • construction of environmental protection facilities, including animal crossings, and protection of agricultural and forest areas
    and cultural heritage.
