During the October break in the session of the Bolesławiec City Council, a joint meeting of the standing committees of that body was held. The councillors addressed naming the newly built facility along provincial road no. 297 (the Bolesławiec–Lwówek road).

As explained by Jan Kisiliczyk, head of the Property and Spatial Management Department at the Bolesławiec City Hall, activists from NSZZ Solidarność asked the Mayor of Bolesławiec to name the aforementioned site the “100th Anniversary of Independence Roundabout”.

Councillor Eugeniusz Jabłoński, a member of the mayor’s Forum club, spoke and stressed that he was in favour of the roundabout having its full name, namely “100th Anniversary of Regaining Independence”.

J. Kisiliczyk replied that the union members had proposed the first name for practical reasons. But he immediately added that he understood Councillor Jabłoński’s reservations.

His club colleague, Councillor Wojciech Kasprzyk, supported him and stressed that the draft resolution should be referred to the Infrastructure Committee.

A discussion ensued, during which Jan Leon Stasiak, also from the Forum club, noted that he was submitting an opposing motion, namely that the name proposed by the “S” activists should be retained.

Law and Justice councillor Bogdan Biernat, on the other hand, stated that, for practical reasons, it might be better simply to name the newly built site the “Independence Roundabout”.

Bolesławiec City Council Chairman Jarosław Kowalski once again drew the councillors’ attention to the fact that the name had been proposed by Jan Filipek and Zbigniew Razik of Solidarność.

The secretary, Jerzy Zieliński, then joined the discussion, emphasising that the mayor had not interfered with the wording of the request from the aforementioned “S” activists and that the roundabout’s name “is not an elaborate treatise”. Changing it—for procedural reasons—would take approximately two months, meaning that the local-government officials would certainly not make it before 11 November.

Having agreed to the name proposed by the union members, the councillors withdrew their motions.
