The Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński honored the coffee set in the “Geometric Solids” decoration with the special “Design of the Year for Culture” award. The set was created by our chief designers:
- form designer: Mariusz Ochocki
- decoration designer: Teresa Liana.
The ceremony took place on October 25, 2018, at the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw, marking the 25th anniversary of the Good Design competition. The award-winning set is on display at the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw until December 9, 2018.
The set was honored for its innovative use of traditional craft techniques and for successfully enriching the Bolesławiec ceramics range with a product inspired by Constructivism – one of the movements in abstract art. It reflects current design trends while preserving the functional and aesthetic qualities characteristic of tableware.
The product combines tradition with the avant-garde and represents another step in bringing traditional craft back into contemporary interiors.
IWP EXPERT OPINION:
This is a proposal entirely different from the rustic patterns associated with Bolesławiec ceramics. Floral motifs and peacock eyes have been replaced by an irregular composition of simple geometric solids. The shape of the vessels has also changed – rounded bellies have been replaced with forms featuring straight, truncated sides. The set will appeal to audiences who appreciate aesthetic references to historical styles and are looking for an alternative to Bolesławiec’s folk motifs.
The geometric pattern and strong primary colors evoke both the Bauhaus and postmodernism.
