During the October session of the Bolesławiec County Council, local government officials honored acclaimed judoka Edward Spraski.
Let us recall. The World Judo Championships were held in Cancún, Mexico. Twelve Poles competed in the veterans’ category.
A resident of the City of Ceramics and deputy head of the County Center for Education and Staff Training, Edward Spraski, took part in the competition in the M7+ 100 category. The Bolesławiec resident and Russian Viktor Magiera were ranked joint fourth–fifth.
The performances of all the veterans were noticed by the IJF (International Judo Federation) and described as “friendship, fun and fair play.” According to the Federation, these athletes are able to draw from judo, in addition to the sporting result, what matters most—friendship, the joy of practicing sport, as well as respect for one’s opponent and competition always conducted according to the principles of fair play.
