Work began in January 2018, and on 15 October there was a highly spectacular opening. Bolesławiec residents who attended the event admired a laser show, a multimedia presentation, a fountain set to music and the Copernicus Science Centre show “Mind Caught in the Act”.

From today, the modern library will be a place symbolising public space, understood as a venue for social meetings, communication, leisure, learning, relaxation and cultural activity.

– We want to expand the offering; we care about an ambitious project that will make it possible for not only the residents of Bolesławiec but also the region to access the wealth of knowledge from around the world. One of the ideas we are implementing is close cooperation with the Copernicus Science Centre – says the city president Piotr Roman.

The implementation of the “Knowledge Centre – adaptation of the former department store premises for public purposes in Bolesławiec” project is a response to difficulties in the operation of the former library, caused mainly by the growing number of users, the building’s poor technical condition and its relatively small area of 820 m² (520 m² available to readers). The new facility, by contrast, has an area of 1,346.53 m².
