At the beginning of April, the 22nd Construction Knowledge and Skills Olympiad was held in Wodzisław Śląski. Students from construction schools across the country competed for the title of laureate. Among them was a fourth-year student of the Construction Technical School in Bolesławiec, Łukasz Woleński. Łukasz had already taken second place in the regional stage of the Olympiad, held on 7 March in Zielona Góra. The winners of the regional stages came to Wodzisław Śląski. “Everything began at 9:00 a.m. The first writing stage lasted two hours. Then there was a half-hour break. The next writing stage lasted 1.5 hours. Another break, followed by another 1.5 hours of writing,” Łukasz Woleński recalls. In total, the Olympiad lasted five hours. Participants had to demonstrate technical knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry. The questions also covered entrepreneurship, civil and construction law, as well as issues directly related to construction.
In Wodzisław, Łukasz Woleński placed 18th out of 81 participants and earned the sought-after title of Olympiad Laureate. Along with the title, the student of the Construction Technical School in Bolesławiec received a diploma and commemorative medal. The title Łukasz received allows him to enter construction studies without entrance examinations. The Olympiad laureate does not hide the fact that the knowledge passed on by ZSB teacher Bronisław Sołek helped him achieve success. “The Olympiad went little beyond what Mr Bronisław Sołek taught me,” Łukasz emphasizes. The Olympiad laureate still has his final secondary-school examination ahead of him. After passing it, Łukasz wants to study architecture.
