The training ground is still burning.

See how firefighters from OSP Osiecznica are fighting today’s fire:

This is already the second day of the fire at the training ground in Świętoszów. The fire is consuming around 40 hectares of the training ground. Gusty winds are hampering firefighting efforts. Three firefighting aircraft and fire service crews from Bolesławiec County and neighboring counties are taking part in extinguishing the fire. Three firefighting companies are also heading to the scene—two from Lubusz Voivodeship and one from Lower Silesian Voivodeship. A firefighting company consists of between 8 and 16 crews.

Let us recall. A massive fire broke out on Thursday, September 20, at the training ground in Świętoszów. The first operations were undertaken by the Military Fire Service. However, when it became clear that the military firefighters could not deal with the fire on their own, uniformed officers from the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec and volunteer fire brigades from our county were dispatched to the scene.

(The photographs come from the Facebook profiles of OSP Ławszowa, OSP Nowogrodziec and OSP Osiecznica.)

It turned out at the scene that a heathland had been burning; forested areas were at risk. It was dry and windy, so the fire spread quickly.

Firefighters from the following counties also joined the operation: Zgorzelec, Lwówek, Lubań, Jelenia Góra, Złotoryja, Legnica and Polkowice, as well as from Lubusz Voivodeship—from Żary, Żagań and Szprotawa.

At the worst point, more than 50 fire service crews tried to bring the fire under control. More than 160 people took part in the operation.

As mł. bryg. Andrzej Śliwowski, head of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, told us, the fire had spread across an area exceeding 200 hectares.

We hope that today’s fire can be brought under control as soon as possible.
