Free food will be distributed to everyone who was unable to collect it last week. At the Health Centre building on Zwycięstwa Street, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., people can receive hard cheese, processed cheese, milk, butter, flour and pasta. They are given to those selected by municipal and commune social welfare centres.
The campaign to distribute food to residents of Bolesławiec County is organised by Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci. Its head, Jadwiga Bobek, is proud of it. In a conversation with us, she emphasises the role and commitment of the volunteers who helped unload the lorries and distribute the food.
“Dear residents, please come and collect the products prepared for you. They are for everyone who needs them and has been selected by MOPS and GOPS. Let us not allow the food to go to waste,” Jadwiga Bobek appeals. “This food is for everyone who needs it—not only poor people, but also those whose lives have suddenly fallen apart. When something unexpected happens, someone takes out too many loans, or someone else suddenly loses their job, there is no need to be ashamed. You can come for help in order to recover from a difficult situation in life. Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci does not distribute food independently. It always consults the Social Welfare Centres, but treats people with disabilities particularly favourably and adds them to the list itself after consulting the welfare centre,” Jadwiga Bobek explains.
In 2009, almost 500 tonnes of food are to be distributed in our county. The range of products will also be expanded. There will be oatmeal, powdered milk, groats, ready-made meals, sugar, jam and grain coffee.
In Poland, there are 300 poor people for every wealthy person. Around 8 million Poles live below the social minimum. According to Eurostat research, Poland is the poorest country in the European Union.
