A desperate mother wrote to us. She wants and needs to work, but has no one to look after her child. The nurseries are full. What have your experiences been? Can anyone help this mother?
“Let’s move heaven and earth to find an answer to what to do with a little child when there are no places in a nursery—the only alternative for a working mother. I am a pharmacist. I work seven hours a day, Monday to Friday. Until now, my mother and sister looked after the child. But my sister is starting school, and, to tell the truth, my mother no longer has the strength.
I am devastated. You want and need to work, but you cannot because there is no one to look after your small child. The mayor walks around the city, happy with his life, while I do not even have the strength to smile. These seemingly mundane matters overwhelm us, and we cannot overcome them.
My child is two years old. They are too young for preschool. Nikomariko has no places. We have to wait until September; perhaps a place will become available. Nibylandia’s phone is switched off, so I cannot get in touch. Buro on Łukasiewicza is closed for renovation. We were not admitted to the municipal nursery.
I am just getting ready to go to Słoneczko. It is my only hope, although the costs there are affordable, which is another absurdity. At the nursery in Łaziska, the staff told me there was no chance of getting a place.
And Bolesławiec is pleased that the unemployment rate is low. All that remains is to sit down and tear one’s hair out.”
