The Firefighters’ Festival, organized this year for the third time by the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Stary Węgliniec, is an outdoor event aimed at familiarizing residents with hazards occurring in everyday life, ways of avoiding and combating them, as well as integrating the local community and creating an opportunity to spend free time together.
The event will take place on Saturday, 25 August. The festival’s main attraction will be the official presentation and handover of a new rescue and firefighting vehicle for OSP Stary Węgliniec.
The ceremonies will begin at 12:00 with an outdoor Holy Mass, the blessing of the new vehicle, the planting of the Oak of Independence and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque beneath the OSP fire station.
The programme includes:
- US Army military equipment displays
- stunt shows
- OFF ROAD
- children’s attractions – inflatables and an entertainer
- rescue and firefighting equipment presentation,
- rollover simulator
- Photo booth – have your firefighter-themed photo taken!
- “Firefighters’ Games” tournament
- fireworks display,
- laser show
- an exhibition of cacti from around the world – “Kaktusiarnia Żagań” by Zdzisław Kondratowicz. Cactus cuttings from the most distant corners of the earth will be available for purchase
- weather and conditions permitting – a surprise display.
The firefighters from Stary Węgliniec say:
Our food stalls will satisfy the hunger of even the biggest food lovers. Roast wild boar and roast pig, pierogi, pea soup from a field kitchen, grilled food, cakes and much more will make your day more enjoyable.

Previous editions proved hugely popular and exceeded the organizers’ expectations in many respects. At the peak, several hundred people from nearby towns, municipalities and even counties attended.
This year’s event is held under the patronage of Waldemar Pawlak, president of the National Board of the Volunteer Fire Brigades Association of the Republic of Poland, and the Municipality and Town of Węgliniec.
