Krzysztof Łukasiewicz’s adventure with art began in primary school. “I was always drawn to it,” admits the Bolesławiec resident. As a child, he copied the figures on banknotes and drew the faces of television series characters. His fascination with portraiture has, in fact, stayed with him to this day.

Krzysztof Łukasiewicz attended classes at the Youth Cultural Centre and also graduated from an art secondary school. “I learned a great deal there,” he stresses. “You could say that I got a taste of drawing and painting in earnest.”

He then began studying in Zielona Góra. He studied art education. “Throughout that time, I developed my passion for portraiture,” Łukasiewicz says. He drew—and continues to draw—some of his portraits from photographs. “It is a very convenient method,” he says with a smile.

He creates his works in pencil. “A tablet does not produce the same effects. You can see that a drawing was made on a computer,” the artist says. “That device cannot replace a skilled draughtsman’s hand.”

Photography

His passion for photography emerged much later—four years ago. In fact, it grew out of his fascination with digital cameras. “At first, I was involved only in nature photography. It is something incredible: showing the small world that often escapes our notice,” Krzysztof Łukasiewicz points out. But he also enjoys photographing people. His work won the first edition of the competition for the best photographs from Gliniada.

Why these two artistic fields in particular? “I had many interests. I was also intrigued by model-making and origami,” Łukasiewicz says. “However, I decided to devote myself to drawing and photography. If someone wants to do a little of everything, in the end nothing comes of it.”

Art and satisfaction

“I like what I do. If that were not the case, I would not practise art. It is how I fulfil myself,” the artist says. This year, Krzysztof Łukasiewicz is planning his first exhibition, at which he would like to present photographs of nature.
