It has long been known that the fire service does more than just fight fires. Another matter is that some people believe firefighters are obliged to intervene in almost every matter—no matter how trivial. The portal plus.nowiny24.pl described the following case:
A nest of aggressive hornets under the roof of a detached house near Strzyżów. One of the residents is a one-year-old child; it is not known whether the child is allergic to hymenopteran venom. The insects are getting into the house. Mrs. Aneta, terrified by the threat to her son, alerts the fire service, which seemed to her an obvious source of help. The fire service accepts the call and arrives. From the height of the boom, the firefighters determine that a section of sheet-metal roofing must be removed to reach the nest. They promise to return once the sheet metal has been removed.
“They did not come, even though I asked them by phone several times,” Mrs. Aneta complains. “My son was indeed stung by a hornet; fortunately, the hospital found that he was not allergic. My husband removed the nest himself, but I am outraged by the firefighters’ attitude.”
Meanwhile, the plus.nowiny24.pl service reports that firefighters are obliged to respond to similar incidents only in exceptional situations, not to every call. Let us remember this before calling 998.
