Readers complain that not only is unbearable heat pouring down from the sky, but in some places there is also a foul smell coming from sewer manholes. The reason for this is simple: it is hot and the traps are drying out. (When the system operates properly, there is no unpleasant smell.)

Contrary to appearances, the stench from sewer manholes is not the responsibility of the Water and Sewerage Company, but of road managers, who should ensure that the traps do not dry out.

As we have already reported in our pages, the Water and Sewerage Company is responsible for supplying water and collecting wastewater; maintaining roads, and especially their drainage, does not fall within its remit. Nevertheless—as representatives of the municipal and district company say—if someone reports such a problem to PWiK, the company’s employees go to the site and check it. And in critical locations, they eliminate the unpleasant smells.
