Two residents of Gromadka (Bolesławiec County) – Piotr Girtler and Radek “Sołtys” Marszałek – found the remains of three German soldiers in the ground. As reported on the Facebook profile of the “Pomost” Historical and Archaeological Research Workshop:

On July 26, 2018, we carried out exhumation work [...]. Among the village buildings, we located a mass grave in which three Luftwaffe soldiers were buried in 1945.

According to residents’ accounts, during the postwar period, small earthen mounds with wooden crosses were visible at the indicated location, with soldiers’ helmets hanging from them. In the grave, we found one intact identity disc.

The case is being investigated by the Institute of National Remembrance. We will return to the subject.
