Olga Jackowska is above all the unforgettable, charismatic vocalist of the band “Maanam”. She had been battling cancer for five years. She died today at 5:30 a.m. in her family home in Bliżów, in Zamość County.

As we read on the artist’s official Facebook profile:

It is with immense sorrow and despair that we announce that today at 5:30 a.m., on her beloved Roztocze, surrounded by those closest to her, her beloved animals and wonderful nature, Kora died. A great artist, singer, poet and painter. An exceptional woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. An icon of freedom. Always uncompromising in her pursuit of the truth. Involved in the hippie movement, the activities of the first Solidarność, the building of democracy and women’s movements. Kora’s music and that of her husband, the late Marek Jackowski, with whom she co-founded the band MAANAM, as well as her solo work, had accompanied us since 1979. Kora created an era that is coming to an end with her departure. She had bravely battled cancer for five years. The last month was very difficult. Her family, friends and many devoted people accompanied her on the final journey. Many of the best hospitals, doctors, nurses and caregivers were involved in this long fight, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Kora gave people love and was surrounded by love. We will always love her.

Kamil Sipowicz, family and friends.
