The editorial office was called by a Reader, who told us that “there is terrible stealing” at the municipal cemetery in Bolesławiec. And that there are no uniformed service patrols there.

According to our interlocutor, the problem has intensified in recent days. Candles and funeral wreaths are disappearing. Someone bought a candle on Monday and lit it at the grave of a loved one. By Wednesday, the candle was gone. Meanwhile, our Reader stressed, the municipal police do not come there at all, while young people drink beer on the cemetery benches.

The man added that he was not asking uniformed officers to patrol the necropolis every two hours, but they should at least show up there from time to time.

Are municipal police officers really not patrolling the Bolesławiec cemetery? We will ask the commander about this when she returns from holiday. We also asked the Bolesławiec police for comment. It turned out that this year there had been no reports related to thefts at the Bolesławiec necropolis.

As Kazimierz Łomotowski, head of the Municipal Housing Management Company, which manages the cemetery in question, assured us, there are certainly no spectacular crimes taking place there. The necropolis has video surveillance. Minor thefts occur at cemeteries throughout Poland, and even around the world.

As the head of MZGM added, this is, of course, sad, but even a camera cannot capture everything.

We appeal – probably once again with a large dose of naivety – to the cemetery hyenas! For those who come to the cemetery, the memory of their loved ones is sacred. And stealing candles or flowers from the graves of the deceased is simply a terrible act of wickedness. It is certainly difficult to get rich through such a practice. So is it worth doing?!
