The holidays have already begun for all students. “With the final bell, children and young people spend their time actively in the city. However, as it turns out, for some this is the time when they begin experimenting with various substances,” municipal police officers say. “It most often starts with one beer or a cigarette. Observations show that the age of people trying intoxicants for the first time has fallen significantly.”
On 27 June, in the afternoon, the operator of Bolesławiec’s city video-monitoring system observed three young people drinking alcohol near Holy Cross Square. A Municipal Police patrol was dispatched to the scene.
While the officers were on their way, the teenagers threw the empty bottles into nearby bushes and left the scene. Meanwhile, the operator kept the officers informed about where the young people were moving.
When they saw the approaching patrol, the youths tried to flee. Unsuccessfully—the entire trio was apprehended on Karola Miarki Street.
They were all 14 years old, so they were taken to the Bolesławiec Municipal Police headquarters, where their parents collected them. In addition, the young people were required to clean up the area where they had littered. (Which they did.)
Bolesławiec Municipal Police:
We remind you that, under the Act on Upbringing in Sobriety and Counteracting Alcoholism and the Act on Protecting Health against the Consequences of Using Tobacco and Tobacco Products, the sale of both alcohol and tobacco products to persons under 18 is prohibited and punishable.
We would also like to warn against so-called legal highs, as we know that Poland has seen many poisonings caused by these substances in recent weeks. After taking substances of unknown origin, a total of 16 people were hospitalized. The youngest patient was 14 years old.
