Zgorzelec Border Guard officers, working together with officials from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office in Wrocław, shut down two illegal cigarette warehouses and a tobacco-cutting facility. During the operation, they discovered nearly 1,800,000 cigarettes and almost 350 kg of tobacco (200 kg of dried tobacco and 136 kg of finished cut tobacco) worth PLN 1,400,000.

Three Lower Silesia residents, aged 30, 45 and 49, were detained. It was also estimated that if the goods had reached the market, the State Treasury could have lost more than PLN 1.7 million.

All three detainees could face sentences of up to three years in prison and substantial fines.

(Further proceedings in the case are being conducted by officers from the Lower Silesian Customs and Tax Office under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec).
