The sixth final of the provincial oratory competition “You Too Can Become Demosthenes! A Lower Silesian Student as Master of the Polish Word” was organized, as every year, by Primary School No. 2 in Bolesławiec; it is a project of the school’s teachers Monika Kalinowska and Aleksandra Sozańska-Kut. It is a unique competition that teaches eloquence, develops the skills of composing a story and using stylistic devices appropriate to oral storytelling, and improves knowledge of language correctness.
All these qualities, which are extremely valuable in creating and using the Polish spoken word, are a priority for every publishing house. Therefore, the creators of wydawnictwa istotne.pl and the author Grażyna Hanaf are especially pleased that the competition was not only created in our city, but is also being continued with passion and consistency.
This year, the winning speech was about the meaning of life: a moving, thoughtful and well-composed presentation by teenager Nikol Dubrowska from Łużycka Primary School in Zgorzelec. We warmly congratulate Nikola and wish her many wonderful speeches throughout her life, so that her words may open people’s minds and hearts.
The competition was held under the honorary patronage of: the Council for the Polish Language at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, the Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education and the Mayor of Bolesławiec.
The jury, composed of: Kornel Filipowicz, Beata Domerecka, Grażyna Hanaf, Julia Kalinowska, Łukasz Jaźwiec, selected the winners in two age categories after hearing twenty-four competition presentations.
