Bogusław Nowak from the Civic Platform (PO) club submitted an interpellation during Wednesday’s City Council session in which he commented on the conduct of City Hall spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont and Elżbieta Chojnacka, head of the city development and promotion department, during the second day of a tourism fair in Wrocław.

“These people showed no interest whatsoever in the most prominent group,” the PO councillor protested, noting that the officials left the fair after about an hour. “What was the purpose of this visit? How much did the trip cost, and what was achieved for the city?” he asked.

“On 7 February, I attended the PR of the Regions conference, to which I had been invited by the marshal’s office and DOT,” Agnieszka Gergont explained. “During the lunch break, I went to the fair. It was during my free time, so I will not address the suggestions contained in the interpellation.” Elżbieta Chojnacka explained that the office covered the delegation expenses and paid for fuel for the car in which both women travelled to Wrocław for the conference.

The officials failed to convince the PO councillor. “You have a very specific professional goal: promoting the city,” Nowak told department head Chojnacka. “You should use every opportunity, every second, to achieve that goal. You could have contacted the Lower Silesian Tourist Organization, approached the people who were promoting Bolesławiec, and found out what problems they had and what interesting things they had managed to achieve.

The Dismissal of Ewa Zbroja

Councillor Irena Dul of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) wanted to know the reasons for dismissing Ewa Zbroja as director of BOK. “In cases of this kind, the mayor is not obliged to provide the reasons,” replied Maciej Małkowski, Piotr Roman’s deputy. “Besides, the mayor agreed with the director that this matter would not be made public.”

The Chairwoman of the City Council, Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, joined the discussion and said that it was a personal matter concerning the former BOK director. “The municipal commune is not the mayor’s private fiefdom,” Dul retorted. “The mayor should explain the decision he made to the councillors.”

“I think the mayor acted in accordance with labour law,” the chairwoman replied. “There is no fiefdom here; I do not see any fiefdom here.”
