The exercises, held at the training facilities of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, are organised by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Commando Special Company, with the support of the Bolesławiec artillery regiment. This year’s edition will involve nearly 500 students in uniform, who will learn in practice what military life is like and what skills they need to acquire if they are to consider military service in the future.

For five days, under the supervision of military instructors, the young participants acquire various skills. They begin with individual and team drill. Next, they learn to shoot and become familiar with elements of tactics, medical rescue and water training. Throughout the training period, they improve their fitness during marches through forest terrain, as well as high-mountain climbing and hand-to-hand combat training led by instructors from the AGAT unit.

Alongside practical training, the young people take part in educational and preventive sessions. Sappers from the Bolesławiec demining patrol familiarise students with the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance and hazardous materials, as well as the rules to follow after finding them; meanwhile, the Military Recruitment Office gives talks on military education and the conditions of military and preparatory service.

The annual training camps, initiated by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd “Commando” Special Company and the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, take the form of comprehensive, practical workshops developing skills in military subjects. Individual training elements are assessed, and participants receive certificates at the end. Students achieving the best results are honoured with material prizes.

The Commando 2018 Field Exercises will end at the end of June this year.
