Leszek Loch, head of the Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service:

The Lower Silesian Roads and Railways Service in Wrocław, after analysing the situation, reports that the pedestrian crossing in question is located at an intersection on a straight section of road in a built-up area. The pedestrian crossing spans a two-lane roadway approximately 8.5 m wide, with pavements on both sides. The crossing is correctly marked with D-6 signs and the P-10 road marking. On this section of road, the speed limit applicable to a built-up area is in force, namely 50 km/h (60 km/h between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.). The entire section of provincial road 297 in Bolesławiec has street lighting.

He added:

No incidents involving pedestrians were recorded in the vicinity of the pedestrian crossing during the previous two years, according to data from the Voivodeship Police Headquarters’ SEWIK system. Visibility at the pedestrian crossing between drivers and pedestrians is maintained at a very good level. From the perspective of traffic safety, taking into account the existing signage, road geometry and traffic conditions, there are no grounds for introducing additional measures in the form of traffic lights—the application received a negative opinion.

Let us recall that a Reader contacted our editorial office, asking for intervention regarding the dangerous pedestrian crossing on Garncarska Street, near Stary Młyn. The man, who spoke on behalf of the residents of the nearby newly built housing estate, stressed that more and more people, including children, use the crossing.

In his opinion, the crossing is dangerous, and the situation could be improved with additional marking—for example, by installing traffic lights with a push button or intelligent traffic lights (such as those on Tysiąclecia Avenue).

We will return to this topic.
