There has been talk since December last year that passenger trains running between Goerlitz and Wrocław will probably be withdrawn on 1 March. Internet forums are buzzing with discussion of the issue. Readers asked us to publicize the matter.

The problem is serious. If the timetable is changed, passengers, including residents of our county, will have to spend considerably more on tickets. “This is one big farce. It is as if all local trains from Wrocław to Międzylesie were cancelled, leaving only the Praha–Wrocław services. Why are PKP and UMWD harassing people from towns located along the E30 line so much?” comments one forum user on Infokolej.pl. “If it turns out in March that people have been deprived of the morning train to Goerlitz, which gets them to work and school, those same people will take to the tracks, just as people recently did in Podlasie. Around 100 people in Bolesławiec alone use this train every day. Things are going to happen!” adds another.

“Employees of the transport department have repeatedly asked PKP Przewozy Regionalne for an explanation,” Marta Libner from the press office of the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. “So far, they have not received a specific answer,” she adds.

“A final decision on the operation of passenger trains on the Wrocław–Goerlitz route has not yet been made,” says Piotr Olszewski from the PKP Przewozy Regionalne press office. “We would like to maintain these connections. We are fighting to do so,” he assures us. Negotiations with the German side are continuing. The company’s authorities are expected to meet with their German counterparts later this week.

We will return to the matter as soon as new information becomes available.
