Jacek Subik, president of the county-owned PKS Bolesławiec company:

The day after the incident, I met with the owner of the dog that had been hit. I sincerely apologized to the gentleman for the situation and for the behavior of our driver as he described it.

And he added:

I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to pet owners to take greater care of their animals. A domestic animal is unable to recognize the danger threatening it; a person must do so. Please remember that sudden maneuvers by a vehicle weighing more than ten tonnes on the road may be dangerous for the bus driver and other people, as well as for moving or parked vehicles.

Let us recall. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 20, in Kraśnik Górny (Bolesławiec municipality). As the bus driver was passing the home of the reader, he fatally hit her dog, Dżebet, and drove away from the scene. The woman said:

We found the driver and the bus ourselves in Krzyżowa. After a brief conversation with the driver, there was no sign of remorse on his part. He told us to notify the police.

When the police arrived, we were fined PLN 220 for failing to keep the dog under control (the dog was sitting on its own property and, when the bus passed, ran into the street—that is a dog's nature).

After we told the police that we believed [kierowca autobusu] he had been driving faster than the posted limit (40 km/h in a built-up area), the officers [...] did not try to clarify the matter. It would have been enough for the police to check the tachograph in the bus.

The officers informed Dżebet's owners that they had to file a civil case. A resident of Kraśnik said:

We accept responsibility for failing to keep the dog under control. We will pay the fine; it was our fault, we understand. We are terribly sorry, our hearts are breaking, but we also want the driver to be held accountable because he fled the scene of the accident without providing assistance, despite seeing everything.

The reader said:

Please look at how close I live to the bus stop. I live so close to the stop that the driver should already have been braking and stopping. If the limit is 40, he should drive at 35 km/h, since there are also passengers inside.

She added:

And besides: how was he driving for the bloodstain to be on the left side?
