As we read on the Facebook profile of volunteer firefighters from Brzeźnik:
On February 26 at 3:06 p.m., we were dispatched to a grass fire in Zebrzydowa. Approximately 60 ares of dry grass were burned.
Firefighters from Bolesławiec, Czerna, Zebrzydowa and Brzeźnik took part in the operation.
Spring grass burning is a real scourge. Many people believe that it improves soil quality. The opposite is true: burning accelerates soil erosion and impoverishment. The flames destroy not only dry grass, but also root systems, flora, bacteria and fungi—in short, the entire wealth of nature is destroyed.
Burning grass is also one of the most common causes of forest fires. Burning meadows also pose a threat to human settlements.
Despite the bans and appeals, people continue to burn grass. The Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service reminds the public that burning meadows, pastures, wastelands, ditches, roadside strips, railway routes, reed beds and marshes is an offense. And if it creates a threat to the health and lives of many people and causes significant material losses, it is a CRIME, for which a PRISON SENTENCE may be imposed!
