The article contains a great deal of interesting information about the city, historic and contemporary ceramics, as well as practical tips on how to get to Bolesławiec. In their article, the Japanese highlight, among other things, Polish hospitality—which they hold in very high regard—and also write appreciatively about Polish cuisine.

It is worth recalling that the monthly magazine “Fujingaho” has been published by Hearst Corporation for more than 100 years. The exclusive lifestyle magazine covers topics such as fashion, style, cuisine, tourism and ways of spending free time.

In Bolesławiec, the “Fujingaho” editorial team consisted of:

  • editor – Yumi Matsunaga
  • photographer – Hiroshi Abe
  • translator – Izumi Fujita.

The team enjoyed attractions prepared as part of the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival: the ceramics fair and the ceramics animation town at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre. The Japanese visitors also attended the opening of the exhibition “The Magic of Italian Ceramics. Vessels from Vietri sul Mare” at the Museum of Ceramics. They visited six ceramic companies that sell their products on the Japanese market: Galia s.c. Ceramika Użytkowa; Ceramika Millena s.c. Dariusz Sikorski, Wiesława Seneszyn; Ceramika Bolesławiecka Kalich; Fabryka Naczyń Kamionkowych “Manufaktura” Sp. J. Smoleński & Zwierz; “Ceramika Artystyczna” Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego; and Zakłady Ceramiczne “Bolesławiec”, learning about the specific nature of production at small and large ceramic workshops.

At each company, photographs were taken of characteristic forms and decorations, and interviews were conducted with the owners and managers. The editorial team also visited the Museum of Ceramics, learning about the history of Bolesławiec craftsmanship. They also met at a special presentation with Janina Bany-Kozłowska, chief designer at Zakłady Ceramiczne “Bolesławiec”, and Anna Bober-Tubaj, director of the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec.

“The result of the visit by representatives of the editorial team of the monthly magazine ‘Fujingaho’ is an 18-page, richly illustrated article about Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec ceramics in the magazine’s New Year’s issue,” says Anna Bober-Tubaj, head of the Museum of Ceramics and coordinator of the Japanese editorial team’s stay in Bolesławiec.
