Police officers from the Legnica traffic unit, while patrolling the border areas of Legnica and Bolesławiec counties, noticed a white van whose driver, in order to enter the motorway, failed to comply with a sign indicating the mandatory direction of travel and crossed a double solid line. The vehicle was stopped on the A4 motorway in Bolesławiec County.
The van was being driven by a 24-year-old resident of Środa County, who immediately admitted to the officers that he did not have and had never had a driving licence. The driver presented the vehicle’s registration certificate; however, after checking the system, it turned out that the vehicle had been stolen.
The driver was detained and handed over to Bolesławiec police officers, who, after gathering the evidence, charged the 24-year-old with burglary.
According to findings by officers from the police station in Kruszyn, the vehicle had been stolen in Germany several hours before it was stopped for inspection by Polish police officers. It also turned out that the detainee had previously been convicted of burglary and fraud.
The recovered vehicle was secured in a police car park and will subsequently be handed over to its owner. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison for burglary. In addition, the resident of Środa County will be held liable for violating road traffic regulations.
