The exhibition showcases a certain transformation in the artists’ creative paths, emerging at the intersection of two generations—a transition from Jan’s geometrized forms to the highly realistic works of Michał and Krzysztof.

In Jan’s painting, content and ideas can be discerned through a combination of abstraction and realism, while realism dominates the works of Krzysztof and Michał, who continue their father’s legacy. The message conveyed by all three artists is imbued with symbolism and surrealism. They want their paintings to be multivalent in meaning, based on a form that is clear to the viewer. The subject matter of the “Timeline 2” exhibition in many paintings is connected with transience, transformation and the metamorphosis of the human being.

The protagonists are suspended in time, on the border between reality and the subconscious. Lost at the boundary between different worlds, they search for the light.

The paintings of Jan, Krzysztof and Michał Powałek comment on contemporary civilizational and cultural problems. They raise questions about the role and position of human beings in the modern world, compelling viewers to reflect and ponder. They favor oil painting, but also create series of drawings in pencil, ink and tempera.
