December’s juggling classes, organized at the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury in Bolesławiec, attracted great interest, so… they were resumed during the school holidays. The workshops are led by Piotr Hanusiak, a juggling instructor.

The company Stefańczyk Studio produced a short film showcasing the Bolesławiec resident’s skills. It turns out that our juggler also feels very comfortable with POI.

Let us recall. Bolesławiec resident Piotr Hanusiak began his juggling adventure when he was 14. Thirteen years have passed since then. Piotr has appeared on the popular “Got Talent!” show, reaching the semifinals of its second edition; worked with Korona, Poland’s largest circus; and performed numerous times with the Chimera fire show group.

All participants will begin by juggling one ball. As the instructor himself says, you first have to get a feel for it. (Then you can add more.) It took the Bolesławiec resident a whole week to master juggling three balls. But it does not always have to take that long. One of the “Got Talent!” semifinalist’s students—a 7-year-old boy—managed this feat in just fifteen minutes.

Why is it worthwhile? Because juggling, although niche, develops not only physical but also mental skills: it activates both cerebral hemispheres and improves motor coordination and memory. It also has quite a lot in common with mathematics. “Individual formations of balls in flight are called a sequence of numbers. For example, a trick with five balls can be called 9, 7, 5, 3, 1,” our juggler explains.
