Intensive construction work is currently under way at the Centrum Wiedzy. At the end of the year, the contractor began installing windows and carrying out work inside the building. The contractor is PRO-BUD from Legnica.
It is worth recalling that the project “Centrum Wiedzy – adapting the premises of a former department store for public use in Bolesławiec” is a response to difficulties in the operation of the existing library, caused mainly by the growing number of users, the building’s poor technical condition and its relatively small area of 820 m2 (520 m2 available to readers). The floor area of the new facility is 1 346.53 m2.
The modern library under construction is intended to be a so-called third place, symbolising public space understood as a place for social meetings, communication, spending free time, learning, relaxation and cultural activity. This is the intended role of the Centrum Wiedzy in Bolesławiec, which will be opened this year.
“We want to expand the range of services. We are committed to an ambitious project that will enable not only the residents of Bolesławiec but also those from the region to access the wealth of knowledge from around the world. One of the ideas we want to implement is close cooperation with the Copernicus Science Centre,” says the city’s mayor, Piotr Roman.
Modern materials have been used, including shelving with seats and state-of-the-art furnishings. In addition to giving the facility an individual character, they are intended to create a welcoming and interesting place for both young and older people. An interesting architectural detail on the exterior will be a section of the façade featuring photoconcrete with a graphic depicting authorities from the worlds of science, art and other areas of social life, as well as attributes important for the development of knowledge and science in Poland and around the world.
