The tragedy occurred on New Year’s Day. As we learned, drivers passing by the house noticed smoke. Four of them entered the building, but unfortunately the smoke prevented them from searching the rooms. After several dozen minutes of operations, firefighters found the body of an elderly man. He was in a bathtub in the bathroom. He had probably sought shelter there from the fire. Unfortunately, he suffocated from the smoke.
For the duration of the operation, National Road 94 was closed in both directions. More about this tragedy in the TVN24 report.
Update
As reported on the website of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec:
Firefighting crews from JRG Bolesławiec, OSP Nowogrodziec, OSP Brzeźnik and OSP Trzebień were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully developed fire in the residential building. They determined that several bystanders had previously tried to extinguish the fire, but due to the high temperature, and especially the heavy smoke, they had to withdraw from the building.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and extinguished the fire with water streams. At the same time, an aerial ladder was set up, making it possible to reach the roof and facilitating the extinguishing of part of the roof structure.
During these operations, an unconscious man was found in one of the rooms. The casualty was immediately evacuated from the building and resuscitation was performed. Unfortunately, after the emergency medical service arrived, a doctor pronounced him dead. Rescue and firefighting operations lasted more than three hours. Eight crews from the State Fire Service and volunteer fire service took part, comprising 27 firefighters.
