The incident took place on the second day of the holidays. Officers from the Border Guard post in Zgorzelec detained a family of four—Russian citizens of Chechen nationality. Immediately after submitting applications for international protection in Poland, the foreigners left for Germany.

The Chechens abused the asylum procedure by illegally crossing the border, since under the law, after submitting an application for international protection, a foreigner should await the head of the Office for Foreigners’ decision at the designated location. Until this happens, applicants may not leave Poland.

It was established that the foreigners applied for international protection in Poland on December 16 and illegally crossed the border on December 25. The Russian citizens will remain at a guarded detention center for foreigners until the proceedings are concluded.
