The softly enveloping blanket makes us forget about the whole world, hide from it and soak up the blissful atmosphere of our living room. Add a mug of hot tea with a little honey and cloves. The pleasant crackling of the fireplace, the smell of biscuits just taken out of the oven, the glossy fur of a cat rubbing against our legs and seeking attention, the rain outside the window, which does not bother us at all. A beautiful picture, isn’t it? Now let’s close our eyes and try to translate such positive feelings into a colour. Let’s imagine its temperature (of course it is warm!) and identify the reflections that create it (natural wood and clay). It turns out that such a shade exists, and it works wonderfully in interiors. It is Pink and Brown, Dulux Colour of the Year 2018.

Colour of the Year 2018: what is Pink and Brown?

The Colour of the Year 2018 is the result of social trends and changes observed in the economy and business—a response to unstable times of upheaval and revolution. Constant change and uncertainty make us need support and a solid foundation more than ever. We seek shelter inside our homes—we retreat to the living room, which becomes our private sanctuary and a safe place.

Such positive emotions can result not only from an arrangement based on natural, soft fabrics, cosy rugs or comfortable furniture, but also from the colour used in the living room. The colour trends for 2018 encourage us to include, above all, the unusual shade Pink and Brown in the décor. Thanks to its enveloping reflections of natural wood and the warmth of clay, it creates a soothing atmosphere indoors. The combination of brown and pink reflections allows us to rest exceptionally effectively: we regain our strength and recharge our batteries.

Colour trends 2018: Pink and Brown and everything else

Although Pink and Brown can form an independent, autonomous colour scheme for our living room, the best idea is to combine it with another colour (or colours!). We have a free hand when choosing its colour companions. We can opt for a saturated, interesting grey (e.g. Graphite Durability) or a grey-blue tone (such as Denim Grey). It looks excellent next to green—an interesting, somewhat more saturated shade shifting from grassy tones to bottle green. If, on the other hand, we want to enhance the warmth hidden in this shade, let’s reach for saturated oranges, including those tending towards gold (such as Golden Temple), yellows or deep reds (e.g. Scarlet Rose).

How should we determine the proportions of the colours? This is a very individual matter. Designers suggest that we should not limit ourselves to combining them on a wall-by-wall basis, but create an original interior concept. Let’s introduce a more intense tone into the arrangement in the form of a band of colour along the floor, a window frame or a round, organic shape in the centre of the wall.

Pink and Brown has tremendous power. It warms, tempts us with its warm notes and envelops us, while at the same time encouraging colour experimentation. Let’s use it in the design to create a soothing, cosy living room. You can find inspiring arrangements at Dulux.pl
