Bolesławiec is home to a unique historic monument: a treasure of Baroque art and one of the most important places of worship on the map of the region, Poland and Europe. Its rich history, dating back to the 13th century, and its highest-class examples of woodcarving are among the notable features of our church. Thanks to the efforts of the parish community and the basilica’s rector, the historic church and its interior can delight residents and tourists alike. Prelate Andrzej Jarosiewicz takes exceptionally careful care of the church. One aspect of this care is securing funds for renovations and high-quality conservation work.
Intensive work has been underway at the church since 2004, carried out with the tremendous commitment of parishioners, residents of the city and surrounding areas, benefactors and institutions. Without external support, the costly conservation work and building renovation would not have been possible. The prelate has secured funding several times from European Union resources as well as national and local funds. The latest agreement, signed between the Lower Silesian Regional Operational Programme and the Roman Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas in Bolesławiec for renovation and conservation work, is worth nearly PLN 5 million.
Before the agreement was signed, a film about the basilica’s history was presented. It was prepared by Bogdan Fijałkowski, vice-president of the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Commando Company, retired senior staff warrant officer.
The agreement was signed by: Marshal Cezary Przybylski (representing the Programme), Mayor Piotr Roman (the Municipal Commune supports the parish community with its own contribution), City Council Chairman Jarosław Kowalski and Rev. Andrzej Jarosiewicz.
