The Youth Firefighting Team at the Volunteer Fire Service in Osiecznica was established in September 2007. It currently brings together 17 people aged between 9 and 16. “The youth team in Ławszowa has been operating for several years. I was therefore asked to establish such a team in Osiecznica,” Damian Tomiak, the MDP supervisor and, on a daily basis, a pedagogy student, told IstotneInformacje.pl. “I really enjoy working with young people. It gives me great satisfaction,” he adds.
“The team is very close-knit,” says Katarzyna Pieczarka. The young people organize trips and training camps and take part in competitions. In January, the group participated in a charity event for the Children’s Home in Bolesławiec. The future firefighters managed to raise PLN 800.
The team meets once a week. The young people train, learn about firefighting equipment and learn how to operate it. “So far, they are doing very well,” Damian Tomiak says with a smile. Firefighting training also teaches organized cooperation. “That is the most important thing. Without it, you will not get very far,” emphasizes Dawid Stryczek, the team leader.
Why did the young residents of Osiecznica decide to join the MDP? “I want to be a firefighter,” says Kacper Serwatyński, one of the team’s four youngest members. He adds that he would like to help others.
