PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. has signed an agreement to electrify the line from Węgliniec to Zgorzelec (27 km). The value of the project, which will be carried out under a “design and build” formula and is scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2019, is PLN 33.1 million net.
“The PLK investment will create new opportunities for regional and long-distance transport. It will improve freight traffic in the voivodeship and in the south-western part of Poland. The project will have a real impact on better development conditions for residents and the economy,” says Paweł Hreniak, Lower Silesian Voivode
The project will shorten travel times, partly by eliminating the need to change from electric to diesel locomotives in Węgliniec. “After the investment on the Węgliniec–Zgorzelec section, the international E 30 route, from Poland’s eastern to western border, will be fully electrified. By 2023, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. will electrify, among others, the Ocice–Rzeszów, Lublin–Stalowa Wola, Ełk–Korsze and Szczecin–state border routes. This will improve rail connections within and between the regions,” adds Arnold Bresch from the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.
